Update the Vector Vario
We are constantly improving the Vector Vario’s embedded software, whether to add new features, enhance existing functions, or fix issues. It is strongly recommended to keep your Vector Vario up to date to benefit from the best performance..
How are software versions numbered?
Software version identifiers (e.g. v1.32c) follow a major.minor(beta) structure:
- The first number identifies majorchanges in the software (e.g., v1.00, followed by v2.00);
- The second number identifies minorchanges, with improvements or new features (e.g., v1.00, then v1.01 and v1.02);
- It may be followed by a letter identifying a test version (beta), which is released before the final version (e.g., v1.32b is released before v1.32c, and both are released before the final version v1.32).
Where can I find the software version of my Vector Vario?
From the Vector Vario Configurator :
- Connect your Vector Vario to the Configurator;
- Go to the Additional settings tab > Connected Device Information > Firmware Version.
From a config.vv file:
- Switch off your vario;
- Take the microSD card out from the back of the Vario and access it on a computer, tablet, or smartphone;
- Open the config.vv file and find the line starting with FirmwareVersion.
From an IGC file:
- Open an IGC file generated by your Vario in a text editor;
- Find the line starting with HFRFWFIRMWAREVERSION.
How to update my Vector Vario?
Via Bluetooth (BLE) :
- Connect your Vector Vario to the Configurator;
- If a new stable version is available online (and you are connected to the internet), a message will prompt you to open the update window.
- If you are using a beta version and a new beta or stable version is available online, the same message will appear.
- You can also open the update window manually via:
Additional Settings > Connected Device Information > Firmware version > Change Firmware.
- In the update window, select the version you want to install from the dropdown menu.
- Click the Start button. The file is first transferred to the Vario (blue LED, less than 2 minutes), then installed (purple LED, less than 10 seconds).
Via the micro SD card: :
- Download an update file from the Update files (manual download) section below;
- Copy the file (without renaming it) to the root of the microSD card;
- Insert the card into the powered-off Vector Vario, then turn it on;
- The update will run automatically (purple LED, less than 10 seconds), then the Vario will power off.
- Turn the Vector Vario back on and check the installed version to confirm that the update was successful.
Notes:
- It is possible to install a version older than your current one.
- Previous versions remain available online as long as they remain compatible with the Configurator.
- You can also update via BLE while offline by selecting “Other” in the update window, choosing a file from your device, and following the update process.

- Experimental: transmission of the calculated theoretical cloud base altitude to XCTrack.
- Experimental: transmission of the calculated ΔTd° (dew point temperature variation) to XCTrack to explore its behavior in thermals and within the boundary layer.
- Added the external command AUTOSHUTOFF=ON to enable automatic vario shutdown after 45 minutes of inactivity.
Vector Vario v1.32 (10/01/2026) :
- Validation of the new features introduced in version v1.32b.
- Improved thermal calibration for airspeed measurement.
- IGC filenames are now based on UTC date and time.
Vector Vario v1.32b (01/12/2025) :
- Log IGC – Data recording now works as a black-box system, with flight data saved and signed until the very last second, whatever happens to the Vector Vario.
- Log IGC – Added attitude parameters (heading, roll, and pitch) to the set of data already recorded every second (position, altitude, wind direction and speed, netto, IAS, total G-force, air temperature, and humidity).
- Algorithm – Correction of the aerodynamic influence of the harness on average airspeed.
- Algorithm – Experimental! Added support for rigid wings (hang gliders & Swift).
- System – Added the extra command AIRCRAFT=x to adapt the algorithm to different aircraft (default value x = 0 for paragliding, x = 1 for hang gliding, x = 2 for Swift).
- System – Added the extra command LED=x to control LED brightness (x between 0 and 100).
- System – Added the extra command GNSSLED=x to provide feedback on GNSS fix status. With x = BI (default), the LED switches instantly between red and green to indicate the current fix status. With x = TRI, an additional orange color is used to indicate between 1 and 28 fixes during the last 30 seconds. In other words, orange means the GNSS fix is valid, but waiting for green is recommended if your flight validation requires 20 seconds of fix before takeoff. In flight, orange may also indicate rare situations where GNSS fix quality is degraded, which may affect the algorithm.
- System – Added the extra command BLECHECK=x to enable (x = ON, default) or disable (x = OFF) the 4 clicks required for BLE connection. Note that without this confirmation, someone could connect to your powered-on Vector Vario and modify its settings without you noticing.
- Pro Version – Added a fast triple beep (after the startup beeps) to confirm that Log Pro has started correctly.
- LED color during clicks is now white instead of yellow, to clearly distinguish it from the orange now used for GNSS reception.
- Long-press duration for powering the Vector Vario on/off is reduced to 2 seconds.
- XCtrack – possibilité d’afficher les valeurs de roulis et tangage dans les Données Externes 5 et 6 en utilisant la release https://dev.xctrack.org/prod-3536115dc81d0c50799de7a39c490895d153b37a-1764308789.apk

Update the Vector Vario Configurator
When an internet connection is available, the Vector Vario Configurator is automatically updated in the background. The new version will take effect the next time the application is restarted or when the web page is reloaded. Note that it is not possible to revert to a previous version of the Configurator.
I’m having issues with the Configurator
Which browser should I use?
With Windows, macOS or Android, we recommend using Google Chrome, Brave or Microsoft EdgeThe Configurator can be used online or installed as an app.
With an iPhoneThe only solution for now is to use the BLE link app to access the Configurator online. It is not possible to install it as an application.
I can’t connect the Vector Vario
Watch the presentation video of the Configurator on this page. It is important not to pair the Vector Vario as a Bluetooth device on your computer/tablet/phone, but to connect it directly from the Configurator.
I can’t see the option to connect a BLE device
In some cases, the option to connect a BLE device in the browser may not be enabled by default:
- Depending on your browser, enter chrome://flags, brave://flags or edge://flags in the address bar;
- Search for Web Bluetooth API and enable the option;
- Restart your browser.
I’m still having issues and not everything is displaying correctly
Most remaining issues can usually be resolved by:
- refreshing the page;
- clearing the cache of the browser used to access the page, or the browser from which the Configurator was installed as an app.
How can I find the version of my Configurator?
Open the Configurator and go to Additional Settings > Information About Configurator > Version.
